Obeisant to Anathema

Footage by Chris Casey

“…I was positively living, in an intellectual sense, on sawdust, which had moreover, already been chewed for me in thousands of other mouths.”
Franz Kafka, Letter to His Father

Inspired by Kafka’s writings on education, this piece features a student attempting to consume the knowledge in the books he’s been given but, finding them rotting away, he tries literally ingesting the pulp oozing from the bindings. He continues this unaware of the four figures straining to support him and his tabletop.
